Tracing our roots and the foundation of excellence.
Comilla Victoria Government College stands as one of the most prestigious and historic educational institutions in Bangladesh, with a legacy spanning more than a century. Established on 24 September 1899 by Roy Bahadur Ananda Chandra Roy, a renowned philanthropist and landlord of the British era, the institution was named in honor of Queen Victoria, the then Empress of India. From its inception, the college has played a pivotal role in advancing higher education in the region and nurturing generations of scholars, leaders, and professionals. Today, it operates under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education and offers higher secondary, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs. Renowned for academic excellence, cultural contributions, and civic engagement, Comilla Victoria Government College remains a symbol of educational heritage and an enduring source of pride for the nation and the broader region.

The journey of Comilla Victoria Government College began with the introduction of First Arts courses, followed shortly by Intermediate Arts and Science programs. Prior to the partition of India, the college was recognized as one of the leading affiliated institutions under the University of Calcutta. Following 1947, it came under the jurisdiction of the University of Dhaka and continued to expand its academic offerings. Honors programs in subjects such as English, Mathematics, Sanskrit, Economics, Politics, and Arabic were introduced, while science and commerce education grew steadily. In 1962–63, the institution expanded to a second campus at Dharmapur for degree-level studies. Nationalized in 1968, the college strengthened its role as a center of higher learning, responding to the growing educational needs of Comilla and surrounding regions.

For more than 125 years, Comilla Victoria Government College has shaped the educational, cultural, and social landscape of Bangladesh. The institution actively participated in the Language Movement of 1952, the Mass Uprising of 1969, and the Liberation War of 1971, producing numerous freedom fighters and national contributors. Distinguished personalities, including Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, have enriched its legacy through their association with the college. Today, the institution offers honors and postgraduate programs across a wide range of disciplines while embracing modern educational practices. Looking ahead, Comilla Victoria Government College remains committed to academic innovation, research excellence, and holistic student development. By preserving its historic values and adapting to future challenges, the college continues to inspire generations and strengthen its position as a leading institution of higher education.
